Tony Hawk is ‘building the metaverse’s biggest skate park’ for a new NFT projectPosted byOn Wednesday he revealed plans to build “the biggest skate park in the metaverse” in a partnership with virtual world The Sandbox and NFT platform Autograph.
Tony Hawk Land will be a new space in The Sandbox, which bills itself as “part virtual real estate, part amusement park”. Built on the Ethereum blockchain, it lets users exchange cryptocurrency for access to virtual plots of land and monetise voxel assets by trading in-game items as NFTs.Autograph will create NFTs based on Tony Hawk and his skateboards, equipment and apparel.
“The Sandbox will make these NFTs interoperable in its open metaverse, turning Autograph’s high-fidelity avatars into 3D voxel versions that have in-game functionality for experiences, adding utility and value for their owners,” according to a press release. Hawk said: “I have been a fan of new technology all of my life – from the first videogames and home computers with CGI capabilities – so I am fascinated by the metaverse, and excited to bring our culture into the virtual landscape of The Sandbox.”
