A three-year-old girl was rushed to hospital after being attacked by a dog outside a pub as cops seized the animal and arrested a man.
The breed of the dog is yet to be determined but it is reported to have been seized and a detective confirmed it will be "humanely destroyed". The statement added: "Officers attended and seized the dog – which will be examined to determine the breed. The area was busy at the time and a number of witnesses have been spoken to and all CCTV opportunities are being explored.
"We seized the dog at the scene, which will now be humanely destroyed, and extensive efforts are now underway to establish exactly what happened. I want to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident, who may have information which could help us with our investigation to come forward as soon as possible.
