The No. 18 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Titans acquired the right to select Burks in a shocking draft-day trade with the Philadelphia Eagles that sentpacking. The uncontrollable circumstances of his selection straddled Burks with immediate expectations. It wasn’t a straightforward acclimation to the NFL for Burks. Alleged conditioning issues and asthma saw Burks struggle to remain on the field through rookie minicamp. Similar absences occurred throughout the duration of the entire offseason, with Burks missing mandatory minicamp and a portion of training camp as well.
The regular season welcomed identical inconsistencies. Head and toe injuries limited Burks to 11 regular-season appearances. Burks ultimately produced 33 receptions for 444 receiving yards and one touchdown. The Titans averaged a 30th-ranked 171.4 passing yards per contest en route to scoring a 28th-ranked 17.5 points per game. Burks’ absence was felt all throughout Tennessee’s passing attack. The Titans found themselves in a similar scenario this offseason.
