A major character's fate is hinted at.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Director Tim Burton has given his reason for finally making Beetlejuice 2, which makes the biggest character death theory far more credible. Arriving 36 years after the original movie, Beetlejuice 2’s story and characters pick up over three decades after the living Deetzes and recently deceased Maitlands battled the titular poltergeist.
In an interview with the British Film Institute, Tim Burton revealed the Beetlejuice questions that led to his interest in returning to the spooky world. Rather than rewatching 1988’s Beetlejuice to extract potential storyline follow-ups, the questions that stuck out to Burton were more removed, focusing on what became of the Deetz family over the past 35 years.
With Jeffrey Jones still missing from the cast and Burton now implying that Charles’ fate will be an important point to address, the theory that Charles Deetz dies in Beetlejuice 2 is far more likely. Since Beetlejuice 2’s story is teased to be about family and how the Deetzes have kept their unit together over the past 35 years, the passing of Lydia’s father would play a massive role in the sequel’s events.
Why Charles Deetz's Death Makes Sense For Beetlejuice 2 Considering the original Beetlejuice movie kicks off with the untimely deaths of Adam and Barbara Maitland, it would make sense for Beetlejuice 2 to begin similarly. The sequel's set photos have already teased a cemetery as a filming location, which could mean that the Deetzes gather to attend Charles’ funeral early in the movie, leading to their reunion with Michael Keaton’s Beetlejuice.
