Bob Casey, D-Pa., stopped by the Pennsylvania State Education Association headquarters in Harrisburg on Thursday to accept the 177,000-member union's endorsement in his re-election campaign against GOP challenger Dave McCormick. “As a member of the Senate obviously I’m exposed to a lot of intelligence that deals with basic threats to the nation and China represents a threat,” Casey said on Thursday. “The legislation gives some time for a sale to take place and that’s adequate time for that to happen so that you can both have the value that people love — people use TikTok and derive a lot of benefit from it — but that allows that to continue as long as they can get the transaction done.
Casey was in Harrisburg to receive the endorsement from the 177,000-member Pennsylvania State Education Association. The union’s President Aaron Chapin called him a “proven leader” and “tireless advocate for public education in Pennsylvania.” After accepting the endorsement at the union’s Harrisburg headquarters and delivering a campaign speech that contrasted his views on an assortment of issues to his Republican opponent Dave McCormick, Casey responded to reporters’ questions. He said his support for the possible TikTok ban was part of a broaderon that measure didn’t mention the social media platform at all.
