Head coach Steve Cooper has some tough selection decisions to make as Nottingham Forest prepare to return to Premier League action.
Cooper’s challenge now is to find his best line-up, having seen his squad buoyed by some quality signings. We take a look at some of the ways the Reds could line up. They are not necessarily XIs Cooper will go with any time soon, but they show how the newcomers can be accommodated.Whichever formation he selects, Cooper has options across the back line. Forest have strengthened at full-back and at centre-back.
Picking three midfielders from Ryan Yates, Orel Mangala, Cheikhou Kouyate, Danilo, Santos, Dominguez and Sangare is also not easy. A 4-2-3-1 allows scope to fit in an extra attacker. The risk is getting overrun in midfield, so getting that partnership right would be key. Sangare has the potential to be a game-changer on that front, however; he has the ability to dominate the centre of the pitch once he gets going.
Potential line-up: Turner; Aurier, Omobamidele, Niakhate, Tavares; Sangare, Dominguez; Hudson-Odoi, Gibbs-White, Elanga; Awoniyi.Amid all the options elsewhere, it is easy to forget that Cooper may well have a call to make over who is his first-choice goalkeeper. Turner has been solid so far, but Vlachodimos is a Greece international and will be pushing his teammate hard for his spot.
