A 102-year-old home in the Monte Vista Historic District has hit the market for $1.3 million, evoking San Antonio's golden age — and it even has a"secret garden" tucked away on its one-acre lot.
Neighboring Trinity University held the property for years before which selling it to private owners, whose estate has listed the property. Frederick and Barbara Opper bought an additional half acre from the college to create a park-like setting for the estate, said listing agent M.D. “Doc” Stephens.
Their “secret garden” tucked away on the property featured an array of fruit trees until the big freeze of 2021, Stephens said. A bay tree and a grapefruit tree survived. A water well also is thought to exist somewhere on the property. It probably originates from when the land served as a stagecoach stop in the late 1800s.
The inside of the house has a chef’s kitchen with an indoor grill and a wine cellar. Three of the home's four bedrooms also have their own bathrooms. An on-site guest cottage is available to rent as well as a student loft apartment above the garage.
