Homeward Health, founded by former Livongo executives, is bringing primary and specialty care to places that lack access to healthcare.
To that end, the company announced Wednesday that it has raised $50 million in Series B funding, just four months after raising its $20 million Series A. The new round was co-led by ARCH Venture Partners and Human Capital, and included participation from General Catalyst. The company also announced that it has partnered with Priority Health, a Grand Rapids, Michigan health insurance provider to provide services to up to 30,000 Medicare Advantage beneficiaries over the next three years.
A patient’s first appointment with a Homeward doctor or nurse will be at their home. After that, patients will have the opportunity to meet virtually. By providing in-home care, Schneider says, Homeward’s practitioners are able to see how patients function in their day-to-day life, which allows the company to adapt their care to their personal situation. Homeward will be able to observe what patients eat, how they move and what they do in order to relate it back to their health concerns.
For Schneider, Homeward Health’s fight is personal: She grew up in rural Winona, Minnesota, and her family still resides there. She believes the new investment round will allow Homeward Health to expand and advance its mission — to “crack what is really broken in rural America.”
