Ben Davison has seemingly been irked by criticism that has come his way
Ben Davison has launched a surprising rant against rival UK trainers, branding them ‘lazy’ and saying the level of coaching in the country is ‘poor’.
The 29-year-old is the youngest high-profile trainer in British boxing today, having burst onto the scene working with Billy Joe Saunders andDavison is just 29, but has already worked with several world championsHe also works in the corner as an assistant coach for WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney.
Despite a successful 2021 with both of these fighters, and many others in his stable, Davison has seemingly been irked by criticism that has come his way.: “Not to blow my own trumpet, but I feel like people go, ‘Oh he got to work with this fighter, he got to work with that fighter.’“Well, why has John, Bob, Bill, who have been in it for 30/40 years not coached these fighters? Because they’re not good enough.
“It’s easy to put a thing, ‘Oh he gets to work with this fighter, he gets to work with that fighter,’ but if you’re good enough you’ll get there. “The reality is I feel like the level of coaching is that poor in this country, that I’ve been able to fast-track.“If all these other guys that have been in it 30/40 years are good enough, they’d be there. But they’re not good enough, and that’s why they’re not here.“They might have 30/40 years on me, but the amount of time that I spend studying the sport, studying the opponents, studying my own fighters, the details that we go into – it’s unrivalled work.
