The U.S.A. men's national soccer team is moving slightly closer to World Cup qualification after recording a hard fought scoreless draw with Mexico.
The draw leaves both teams equal on points behind Canada in the qualifying table, with the top three going through to the tournament in November. Canada lost to Costa Rica away Thursday, after having a man sent off in the first half.
The U.S. missed out on qualifying for the World Cup in 2018, for the first time in more than two decades. The 2026 World Cup will be hosted jointly by the U.S., Mexico and Canada. by minnows North Macedonia, in one of the biggest shocks in the sport. It means Italy will not contest a World Cup for the second time in a row. Wales beat Austria 2-1 to progress to a final game, while Portugal kept star player Cristiano Ronaldo's dreams of winning a World Cup alive by beating Turkey.Matches between Russia and Poland and Ukraine and Scotland were cancelled or postponed due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
