Jerman and the Native American Cultural Garden.CLEVELAND, Ohio - While an official dedication from the Cleveland Cultural Gardens Federation for the Native American Cultural Garden is still a work in progress, Cynthia Connolly wants to make sure one thing is clear.

The current space for the garden was blessed during a traditional Native American ceremony in 2012 and is currently in the planning stages. “We are going to really do our best to create a space that is really reflective of what this land is,” Connolly says. “It is going to be a tribute to the land, not necessarily the people.”

The first phase includes the installation of a stone turtle using an existing mound in the land. Surrounded by natural grasses, the structure is intended to be big enough for children to climb. “We’re a very small community,” Connolly says, “So it’s really just making sure we have the capacity to complete the project.”
