The Ritz issues apology after Black job-hunter rejected because of hair style by LeahMahon_
A BLACK job-seeker has received an “unreserved apology” from The Ritz after he discovered their grooming policy banned “Afro-style” hair.
“I was preparing for the interview a few days ahead on Sunday when I thought I’d look at the grooming policy and I was taken aback by it. “The word Afro itself is obviously indicative of Africans and after reading that I don’t feel comfortable going to the interview. The hotel also confirmed that Mr Jules had agreed to reschedule his interview for the application process after he passed an initial telephone interview. After highlighting the issue with The Ritz, Mr Jules said he has also written a letter to his local Hammersmith MP Mr Andy Slaughter to tackle the problem.
“We need to know when The Ritz changed its policy and why they sent that document to my constituent — they need to be totally open and honest about this. At the moment the apology asks more questions than it answers.Mr Jules went onto tellthat he appreciated The Ritz’s apology, but said that it was “unacceptable” how policies are still undermining the “self-esteem and confidence of Black individuals” with harmful stereotypes.
