It's a must before the new price cap comes in on 1 April, says Money Saving Expert, Martin Lewis.
If there’s one thing we all need, it’s a way to save anything we possibly can on our energy bills. Thankfully, Martin Lewis has come up a solution that could help – and which he says ALL families should do before the end of the month. With energy prices set to go up from 1 April, Lewis has advised households to take a meter reading on 31 March, so you can show your energy supplier just how much energy you’ve used before the price cap is introduced, he says.‘If you pay by monthly direct debit, I’d urge you to do a meter reading on 31st March, the day before the 54% rise in the April price cap.
He also spoke out about rising energy prices on his ITV programme, the Martin Lewis Money Show, telling consumers that if they can prove what they’ve used before the price cap increase, they may save themselves a bit of money.He added: ‘Don't start charging me more on the higher rate and estimating I use some of it afterwards.’Last month he told consumers to ‘sit tight’ with their energy bills and ‘do nothing’ for the moment.
