SmartAsset found that mid-sized cities “offer the most safety.” Plano, which has 285,494 residents, came in at No. 9. All of the 10 top cities on the list have between 140,000 and 286,000 residents. McKinney was home to the fourth-lowest property crime rate in the study, with 936 crimes reported per 100,000 residents in 2020. The city was also tied for the sixth-lowest drug poisoning mortality rate and 18th-lowest for violent crime rate .
