Yet with industrial hydrogen production hubs still to be completed, academics doubt that this would currently work on a much larger scale. The UK government is aiming to achieve 5GW of low-carbon hydrogen production capacity by 2030 for use across the economy. This is the equivalent to the amount of gas consumed by more than three million households in the UK each year.
