Election campaigns thrive on theater and spectacle, but particularly so in India, where campaigns resemble high-octane traveling road shows, replete with loudspeakers, drummers, firecrackers, gawking spectators in party merch, and emotive speeches. But Thakur is always down to collect divine blessings along the way and prays several times a day: before she emerges from her room, in front of a small statue in her car, at a local temple in Riviera Towne, and at any major temples she encounters.
