It is, however, a category that is no longer contained to the summer months, with many multi-brand retailers creating permanent year-round resort wear edits to cater to their increasingly globally-minded audiences and the rise in out of season travel.
Founded in 2015 by Sarah Staudinger and George Augusto, Staud has gone from strength-to-strength over the last eight years, creating fashion catnip for summer style-lovers in the form of vibrant, block-coloured tops, trousers, dresses and accessories. It is arguably the brand’s dresses, however, that have garnered the most airtime, with countless A-listers, including Katy Perry, Bella Hadid, Selena Gomez and Meghan Markle, falling for the brand’s throw-on appeal.
Staud might not have the same logo-laden clout of other designer brands, but this is, perhaps, where its appeal lies. These are the sort of dresses that you can throw on with flat sandals and a basket bag for a city picnic, then, come evening, swap-in heels and big earrings for a seamless, cocktail-ready ensemble. They’ll look the part on the coastline of the South of France, but still manage to feel suitable for a smart summer wedding in the English countryside.
This season Staud has stepped it up a gear, extending beyond its signature ribbed knit fabrics and A-line silhouettes with an offering of show-stopping crepe gowns, satin slips with beaded straps, embellished linen midis and unexpected cutouts – all coming in the brand’s serotonin-packed colour palette .
