Manhattan DA’s criminal probe into the Trump Organization
The conviction was the result of a criminal probe launched by former Manhattan DA Cyrus R. Vance into Trump’s business dealings, specifically into whether Trump’s family business or Trump himself misled potential lenders by inflating the value of his assets in 2020.
“Entering a plea of guilty was one of the most difficult decisions of his life, even with the promised sentence which could require as much as 100 days of incarceration,” Weisselberg’s lawyer Nicholas Gravante, Jr., said in a statement to TIME.New York Attorney General’s civil lawsuit against the Trump Organizationfiled a $250 million lawsuit against Trump, his three adult children Ivanka, Don Jr.
Trump’s legal team did not respond to TIME’s request for comment. Trump’s children could not be immediately reached for comment. In a statement, the Trump Organization said that the filing “represents the culmination of nearly three years of persistent, targeted, unethical political harassment.”
