HBO's upcoming adaptation of Naughty Dog's TheLastOfUs game has cast the original Joel and Ellie voice actors, Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson, in undisclosed roles for the series.
The Last of Us TV show has added original voice actors Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson from the game in new roles to its cast. Naughty Dog's first The Last of Us game came out in 2013 and became an instant hit among players who raved about its post-apocalyptic adventure storyline. A second game, The Last of Us 2, found similar success, inspiring Sam Raimi to develop a film adaptation of the game series.
Production on The Last of Us has been well underway in Canada, and it's expected to wrap up later this month. So far the pricey game adaptation has recruited some of the best talents from Hollywood in main and guest roles, in addition to a few lesser-known stars who will imbue the show with a sense of freshness.
Getting the original voice actors to star in The Last of Us is an intelligent way for the TV show to stay connected to its roots and endear loyalists and keep them hooked to the project. Previous adaptations have strived to honor their source material's original voice stars, like Netflix's one-off Cowboy Bebop show, which brought back the anime's entire original voice cast for the series' Japanese dub.
