The U.S. airstrike that killed Iran's top commander showed Tehran that it can't get away with its provocations, but won't stop the country from continuing with its agenda, Saudi Arabian Prince Turki Al-Faisal told CNBC.

The U.S. airstrike that killed Iran's top commander Qasem Soleimani showed Tehran that it can't get away with its provocations, but won't stop the country from continuing with its agenda, Saudi Arabian Prince Turki Al-Faisal told CNBC.

Iran's leaders have a project to be "the dominant representative ... of all of Islam in the world," and that will continue in a "terroristic" manner, Al-Faisal said. If the U.S. pulls its troops from Iraq, an organization is likely to rise and create a "much more complicated and more blood shedding" situation in the region, he added.

Saudi Arabia's former intelligence minister Prince Turki al-Faisal bin Abdulziz al-Saud attends the meeting of foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council in the Saudi capital Riyadh, on March 30, 2017.
