Opinion: The how and why of gun violence and children: Letters
In the column “Common-sense laws for a safer state” on April 23 by California Assembly member Mike Fong and Cristine DeBerry, executive director of the Prosecutors Alliance of California, they present one more example of politicians continuing to miss the point of why the rise of gun violence is now the leading cause of death of children in America. The elephant in the room that no one wants to address, I believe, has very little to do with guns or lack of gun control.
The result of which has helped lead society to have a general lack of respect and value for all human life and somehow, it’s now solely because of guns. Add in the ability with no consequence to end a human life and call it a “choice” with the use of a single pill has further numbed society to death and killing.
Guns are just the instruments used in these senseless killings and over the last 50 years, the percentage of American households that reported having any guns in the home dropped by 28%. Pretending that the introduction of yet two more gun control bills will somehow magically prevent any more senseless killing is another politically misguided pipe dream.
