Sorry kids, the festival is still canceled.
. But on Monday, the return of the Gilroy Garlic Festival was refuted as a false claim.
“The Gilroy Garlic Festival Association and its Board have not been contacted about this,” the Gilroy Garlic Festival said in a statement shared on. “... The board is happy to see the enthusiasm the Noceti Group has for Garlic but asks that they communicate directly with the Gilroy Garlic Festival Association with those ideas.”
The confusion regarding the event’s return began after the Noceti Group, an event organization that hosts the annual San Joaquin Asparagus Festival in Stockton, shared apost early Sunday where it implied that Noceti Group would carry on the garlic festival. “We heard the extremely sad news that the Gilroy Garlic Festival will not be holding their annual big Garlic festival. We just couldn’t let that happen!” the post read in part.
False reports claimed that the Gilroy Garlic Festival, shown in a file photo, was returning after organizers canceled the event about a week ago.SFGATE reached out to the Noceti Group for comment but did not hear back by the time of publication. The event planning group’s brief statement ended with “More details to come soon! Stay tuned!” At this time, it’s unclear whether the Noceti Group meant that it planned to host its own version of the famous garlic festival.
