Netflix’s The Diplomat follows Kate Wyler after she lands a high-profile job for which she is not well suited. This happens amid an international crisis and has profound implications for her marriage and her political future. The first season plays out over eight 50-minute episodes.
Screen Rant spoke with Debora Cahn about the inspiration behind the story of The Diplomat. She also raved about the cast, revealed what she hopes viewers take away from the series, and explained the muse behind the lead character. Speaking of being lucky to work with people, this cast is so good. Keri Russell is perfect for this role. Can you talk about bringing this cast on? Because it must have been super exciting every time you got someone else.
And then, as they came together, they get along really, like they have such a good time. The only problems that we have with the cast are when they haven't seen each other in 48 hours and they're so excited to catch up and they're goofing around. They enjoy the work, they're happy to be doing it and it creates a really great environment. Debora Cahn: She's a lot of people that I know who are, I don't know, I think women feel like her all the time.
Was this one where everyone kind of always stuck to the script? Or did people go off and change wording to a little bit of improv here and there while filming?
