Our weekly round-up from the courts
A vile grooming gang who treated one of their victims like a ‘piece of meat’ were among those jailed in Greater Manchester this week. Brothers Mohammed Ghani and Jahn Shahid Ghani were two of the five men handed lengthy jail terms for their role in the sexual exploitation of two girls over a number of years.
Events came to light after the first victim, Girl A, began a course in which she stated that she had been a victim of child sexual exploitation. She described being given drugs and alcohol by the men, being ‘passed on to their friends’, adding that she had to do what they said or she would be ‘beaten and raped’.
Insar Hussain, 38, of Bishop Street, Rochdale, was found guilty of one count of rape and two counts of having penetrative sexual activity with a child. He was jailed for 17 years. Mohammed Riaz, 42, also used foul language and threatening behaviour around families and children after he was led off a flight by police 18 months later in a separate incident at Manchester Airport, telling a Border Force officer: "I will punch your f****** head in."
The aircraft was met by police at the gate and the court heard a number of families approached an officer to complain about Riaz's behaviour. He was handcuffed and taken through Border Control.
