One beach is even located on a deserted island
Let’s face it - this summer has been a bit of a washout. There seems to be some sort of rain every day and when the sun does make an appearance it’s not even long enough to justify getting your sunglasses out.
You can fly to Faro in the Algarve from Manchester Airport so it's an ideal destination for a spontaneous getaway. But one of Faro’s biggest draws are the incredible beaches you can visit nearby. The city is bordered by the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve which spans around 60km along the coast. There are no permanent residents on the island and the only major building is a seafood restaurant, Estaminé. A ferry will take you from Faro directly to the beach and the journey lasts around 15 minutes.
