Adil Iqbal was jailed for 12 years for causing the death of Frankie Jules-Hough
The jail sentence handed to a driver who killed a pregnant mum on the M66 could be increased. Adil Iqbal, 22, filmed himself driving at up to 123mph on the motorway before losing control and ploughing into Frankie Jules-Hough's car, which was on the hard shoulder after she'd pulled over because of a flat tyre.
Now it has emerged that the 12 year sentence is being considered under the 'unduly lenient scheme'. Under the initiative, victims of crime, members of the public, and the Crown Prosecution Service can apply to the Attorney General, the Government's chief legal adviser, if they believe the sentences imposed by a judge are too low.
If the referral is deemed to have merit, the case can then be sent to the Court of Appeal where judges may decide to impose a harsher sentence. Minshull Street Crown Court previously heard that Iqbal had previously had his driving licence revoked in 2020 after being found behind the wheel without insurance. Four months after passing a re-test, he posted a video on Facebook of him in Dubai driving a Lamborghini on a public road, using ‘hard acceleration’ and reaching ‘high speed’.
Frankie had pulled over on the hard shoulder, near the Simister Island roundabout, after noticing she had a flat tyre. She went out to inspect her car before getting back in and calling her former partner.
