Chicago is facing a budget shortfall of $538 million next year. Around $200 million of that is a result of the immigration crisis that the city has struggled to deal with, exposing just how pathetic Chicago has become under almost a century of Democratic leadership.

Chicago is floundering, with 40 illegal immigrants flying into the city every day while more arrive by bus. By the end of the year, the city will likely have spent over $300 million on dealing with the migrant crisis, with Mayor Brandon Johnson planning to move more than 2,000 illegal immigrants into giant tent cities that will cost $5 million every month.

NEW: Per CBP sources, yesterday alone, Border Patrol apprehended over 7,400 illegal immigrants at the southern border, & when combined with CBP ports of entry, there were over 9,100 migrant encounters in one day. I’m told CBP released 5,000+ yesterday w/ a notice to appear. — Bill Melugin September 14, 2023 The fact that Chicago, the fourth-wealthiest city in the U.S., can’t handle a few thousand illegal immigrants is both a damning indictment of the Biden administration and Chicago’s Democratic leadership. The border crisis has been well-documented, as liberal sanctuary cities like Chicago whine about being burdened with a fraction of the illegal immigrants for a fraction of the time as border communities have dealt with.

The issue is not just that Chicago Democrats encouraged illegal immigration by claiming to be a sanctuary city and then cried foul when being forced to deal with the immigration crisis. It is that Chicago is failing at everything, including handling a fraction of the border crisis, because it is run by incompetent Democrats and has been since 1931. A budget shortfall of more than half a billion dollars is the natural result of that.
