A wide-ranging series of reports has outlined the impact of the song contest in May
For two weeks in May, Liverpool and the wider region opened its arms to the world in a series of events focussed around the staging of the continental song content on behalf of Ukraine. Now an evaluation steering group has delivered its verdict on how stepping into the breach at short notice delivered a lasting economic impact for the area.
The city also recorded its best month on record for hotel room sales for five years, with 175,000 snapped up in May. Efforts to keep Liverpool tidy also peaked, with more than 50,000 tonnes of waste collected throughout the Eurovision period, 80% of which could be recycled. “The visitor and economic figures speak for themselves – jobs were created, local businesses were on the receiving end of a much-needed boost and hundreds of thousands of people came to the city, had a great time and are more than likely to return again.”
