The East Amarillo Complex takes the crown for the largest recorded wildfire in state history, ripping through more than 900,000 acres of land in 2006. To put the size of the blaze into perspective, that's a larger area than the state of Rhode Island at 1,214 square miles, or 776,960 acres. With the exception of the Big Country fire in 1988, every fire in this list took place this century. According toreleased by the Trump administration in 2018, human-made climate change has already increased the area burned by wildfire in the western United States.
"Climate change has driven the wildfire increase, particularly by drying forests and making them more susceptible to burning," the report said. The Bastrop County Complex wildfire is the all-time leader in home destruction in the state. The 2011 fire consumed nearly 1,700 homes, more than seven times the runner-up.LATEST SPORTS NEWS
