Any originality that might have existed in the 1995 Continental's sheetmetal was excised in the wind tunnel, and the resulting inoffensively-rounded profile made it easy to mistake it for the full-size cars from Buick, Oldsmobile and Mercury—cars that were supposed to be a step below Lincoln in perceived prestige. The Continental's powerful 32-valve V-8 was its one saving grace, but its 0-60 run of 8.2 seconds would quickly be eclipsed in the coming luxury-car horsepower race.
