Congrats on the baby! The first year is so tough, but it gets easier. Until they hit the terrible twos.
You probably remember enough from your own adolescence to know that it’s a tough age, but just in case you ever let yourself enjoy a fleeting moment where you think you might be able to navigate your kids’ teen years in a way that doesn’t end with them screaming at you several times a week about how their 11:30. curfew is the greatest injustice that this world has ever experienced, let me reassure you that you’re wrong. There is no way to avoid any of that. We must all simply acquiesce.
But then they go off to college, and that’s when things really start to get fun. Well, they get fun once you learn to cope with the anxiety of your child not living with you anymore and how you basically now have to just trust that they’re going to class and being responsible and not doing any of the things that you did in college. Please let me know if you ever learn how to cope with that.
After they graduate, though, you’re on easy street.
Anyway, congrats again on the baby, and remember—the tough ages always eventually come to an end! They just always eventually start up again, too.
