AUSTIN — Texas interim coach Rodney Terry received a significant salary raise around Christmas, a couple weeks after he stepped in for former coach Chris Beard, who was suspended Dec. 12 and fired for cause Jan.
A former head coach at UTEP and Fresno State, Terry has done a commendable job since stepping into Beard’s position. The 54-year-old Angleton native is 12-4 in the interim role and currently has No. 5 Texas atop the Big 12 standings, one game up on four other programs. Del Conte will conduct interviews with prospective candidates once this season concludes, Terry included. And if the Longhorns manage to win the Big 12 for the first time since 2008, reach the Sweet Sixteen and retain their blue-chip recruits, Terry might just lose that interim tag.
