Texas running back Bijan Robinson is off to another strong start this season, leading the Longhorns with 311 rushing yards and five touchdowns.The Longhorns sandwiched a gripping one-point loss to then-No. 1 Alabama between lopsided wins over Louisiana-Monroe and UTSA. That “preseason” performance lifted Texas from unranked to No. 22 heading into this Saturday’s Big 12 opener against Texas Tech at Jones AT&T Stadium.
Classmate and starting right guard Cole Hutson has been effective. The 6-foot-5, 305-pound freshman has allowed five pressures in 98 passing snaps. And like Banks, he hasn’t surrendered a sack. After touting him as a breakout candidate all preseason, coaches challenged Ford to play up to his skill level. He’s responded well over the past couple of weeks, despite failing to stop Alabama running back Jase McClellan’s 81-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter of an eventual 20-19 loss in Week 2.
The Longhorns’ defense has faced its own struggles on third down, allowing opponents to convert at a 41.7 percent clip. But some of those conversions have come in bunches.
