Chinmaya Mission in Dallas will resume in-person Sunday school this week, after only having virtual services for the past two years due to the pandemic.
DALLAS — The Hindu celebration of Holi is this week. One congregation in North Texas will not be hosting a huge festival because of the pandemic, but families still have something to be excited about. The Chinmaya Mission in Dallas hosted two years of virtual-only Sunday school because of the pandemic
“So [I] we went online the last two years,” Swami Saraswati said. “This Sunday we will be opening up for our in-person [Sunday school]. So today, we are just going around cleaning, sanitizing. Our air ducts haven’t been used in two years. We’re getting that all taken care of and getting ready to welcome our families back, finally.”
That metaphor of being locked up in houses is especially true given the past two years with COVID-19. “… We invite all of them, and then they bring their friends, too. So it ends up being this huge celebration with a lovely amount of people,” Dandekar said. “It’s been a real disappointment not to celebrate like that. We really get excited about it. I am disappointed again this year, but there is a silver lining.”
