“Accessing our full authentic selves is precious. It is healing, and it is everyone’s fundamental human right. To restrict drag, an art form, in any way is a direct attack on my fundamental rights as an American and as a performer,” Thomas said.

Sen. José Menéndez, D-San Antonio, asked who would decide whether a show is “prurient,” since the word isn’t defined in the bill. Hughes said enforcement was up to the attorney general and the courts.
