Houston has now interviewed six candidates to replace Lovie Smith
The Texans have completed their interview with Rams assistant head coach and tight ends coach Thomas Brown, a source said Tuesday.
Brown is the sixth candidate to interview with the Texans. He flew to Houston Tuesday to interview in person. Brown follows Eagles assistants Jonathan Gannon and Shane Steichen, Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, former Saints coach Sean Payton and Broncos defensive coordinatorBrown, 36, won a Super Bowl with the Rams in 2021. He interviewed for the Dolphins’ head coaching job last offseason. Brown is the only candidate who has been interviewed that has not been a head coach or a coordinator in the NFL. He is also the youngest candidate.
A former Georgia running back, Brown was drafted in the sixth round of the 2008 NFL draft by the Falcons. He played three seasons in the NFL, before he decided to get into coaching. He coached at Georgia, Chattanooga, Wisconsin, Marshall and Georgia again, before he was hired to be the offensive coordinator at Miami in 2016. At the time, he was one of the youngest offensive coordinators in the country.
