The Silverado Trail Boss is how an off-road pickup should look, feel, and sound.
Let's start with what the 2022 Chevy Silverado LT Trail Boss is. This truck does not play in the same space as the Ford F-150 Raptor or the Ram 1500 TRX. The Trail Boss is alsowears that crown, and even that hugely capable rig doesn't rise to the desert-running level of the Raptor or TRX.
Crawling over rocky obstacles in the Trail Boss is made easier thanks to an array of cameras that keep the driver in the know about approaching threats via the high-res display, complete with graphics indicating your choice of line. Big ups to the forward-facing camera in the grille that some OEMs still overlook, though points are subtracted for Chevy burying the camera feeds behind multiple touchscreen taps instead of having a dedicated physical button.
We pointed the Trail Boss at a section of rugged terrain analogous to the hardest 150 feet you'll likely find on your drive to the hunting cabin. Low-range would have been useless to anything but a bulldozer—this deeply rutted hill required a max-horsepower assault. Good thing our $64,405 Trail Boss test truck came equipped with the optional $3,900 420-hp 6.2-liter V-8 engine.
