John Terry reveals he's still haunted by Champions League final penalty miss against Man United CFC MUFC
Terry revisited that night in discussion with snooker legend Hendryslipped and his effort hit the post, with United going on to lift the coveted trophy when Nicolas Anelka missed his kick.Despite his immense success at Chelsea, it is one of the most memorable moments of his career., Terry revealed how the miss has affected him.
“You don’t often get time to… unless it’s big finals or the Champions League when I missed the penalty, that’s still with me today. I often still wake up, literally the middle of the night and it’s there. Champions League final, missing the penalty.“You have so many successes, but it’s strange how you remember that, but more importantly how everybody else remembers it as well, and reminds you.
“I was just really emotional and looking back, I was in a really bad way if I’m honest. I just remember being in my hotel room and just thinking the worst things ever.”He added: “After that was the worst thing, we had an England game against America at Wembley literally four days later. So it was Champions League final, miss the penalty, go back to England, have a day off, and then you meet up with England.
“I just remember going, ‘Why, why that goal?’ If I could have flipped the two, the goal for England and scored the penalty, I would do it tomorrow. It’s just bizarre, you’re just so disappointed.“People don’t get to see that side of it, they see the glamour and it’s a great life don’t get me wrong, but there is ups and downs along the way as well.”
