Families living near to the site were told to keep their doors and windows closed
Two teenage boys have been arrested following a huge blaze at a former bingo hall in Kettering on Easter Sunday. Around 109 properties were left without power after the fire - believed to be arson - spread to the neighbouring electricity sub-station.
Four crews from Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the fire at the former Gala Bingo Hall on Kettering High Street at about 6.20pm. as firefighters from Corby and Wellingborough stations tackled the blaze for more than three hours. More than 100 properties across 13 postcodes had no electricity for several hours after the fire quickly spread to the sub-station. Power was not restored until the early hours of yesterday, April 10.A police cordon was placed around the affected area overnight, and fire investigators moved on to the scene yesterday to assess the building. National Grid staff are likely to be on the site for a couple of days in order to carry out work to the damaged sub-station.
Northamptonshire Police said yesterday afternoon that two boys, both aged 13 and from Kettering, were arrested in the town on the night of the fire, on suspicion of arson. NFRS said it was called by 14 people, but it only had details for seven of the callers, all of whom could be potential witnesses, Northants Police said. Officers are now urging them to come forward to help with their investigation.READ NEXT:
