A drug misuse expert has spoken out after two teenagers' died after attending a gig at a Glasgow club.The Scottish Drugs Forum policy officer claims that dangerous pills could be driven out of the supply if substances are checked at night time venues, as seen in other European countries.
Investigators are treating both deaths as drug related however, the individuals did not know each other. Enquiries are ongoing. "When they get feedback on what a pill actually contains they can decide whether they want to take it and how much it would be safe for them to take. "There is also evidence that if there is enough testing done across communities then dangerous pills are driven out of the supply. Given the evidence from Europe and elsewhere, Scottish Drugs Forum would support the introduction of drug checking services in Scotland.In February Glasgow Livereported that 311 people in Glasgow died as a result of drug misuse in 2021, a rise of 20 from the 291 deaths in 2020.
Police continue to probe the deaths. A statement from Police Scotland Greater Glasgow was released on August 15. Chief Superintendent Mark Sutherland, Divisional Commander for Greater Glasgow urged anyone with information to come forward. Officers can be contacted anonymously.
