All five people exited the vehicle and walked toward the gas station’s store when Weatherspoon — who was 16 years old at the time — and two of his friends simultaneously walked by, Cooper said. The two groups “exchanged looks,” according to Cooper, before Weatherspoon and his friends crossed the street toward a nearby McDonald’s.
