Historically, a few large vendors have dominated the business of supplying mobile-network equipment, providing costly proprietary systems in which they control both the hardware and the software. Opennetworks are completely different: they are software-driven, based on open standards and run in the cloud on commercial, off-the-shelf servers.network built and launched in Japan by my company, Rakuten, is the world’s first large-scale deployment of Opentechnology.
