A cocktail called Dead Central is a nod to the building's past
A new restaurant, gearing up for opening day, has already got food lovers salivating after showing off photos of the dishes on social media. Limas Tapas & Social has taken over the former Indian restaurant"We are not Spanish.
"Me and Simon have had an input but he menu is Peter's brainchild essentially. We don't want to govern the chef and restrict them. Let them have free reign to a degree, then they are going to be passionate about what they're cooking because it's what they want to do rather than what we're telling them to do. And it shows with what is coming out of the kitchen.
The property was the Chandelier for more than 30 years - the town's oldest restaurant - until it closed in May 2022. Now it's unrecognisable after the transformation, creating 96 covers. Kenny said:"We set out to do something homely. We wanted it to feel quite soft so when you sit in here you feel quite comfortable and relaxed. Everything has come together really well. We are really pleased with it."
If his face looks familiar, Kenny used to be general manager at Esquina, a tapas restaurant in Sawley. It was always his dream to open his own place but he didn't have the capital to go it alone., who was a regular diner."We got chatting. He liked the way I was hosting and the vibe and asked me if I would consider something with him. It stemmed from there."
As a coeliac himself Kenny appreciates how difficult eating out can be. Few dishes on the menu contain gluten and those with bread can be served with a gluten-free alternative."We have tried to be inclusive. We are going to seek accreditation from the Coeliac Association one we're settled, just so people can come with peace of mind. We have a separate fryer but generally Peter is making everything with gluten-free flour and using a gluten-free beer to do the beer batter," he said.
