Swoop is offering no frills Regina flights to and from Edmonton, Winnipeg and Toronto, two times per week.
James Bogusz, Regina Airport Authority CEO, said the arrival of Swoop airline means an additional 1,100 seats coming into Regina each week, which he said directly benefits the city and southern part of the province.
Swoop, a no-frills, low-cost airliner, had its first flights fly in and out of Regina on Thursday as passengers arrived from Edmonton and others exited, bound for Winnipeg. About half of the 4,000 hotel rooms in the city were occupied between January and the end of April, Fahlman said. Pre-pandemic levels in 2019 saw an average of about 65 per cent during the same period.
“Last week, looking at some of the recent data, we’re upwards of 75 per cent of pre-pandemic passenger volumes, so getting well above 1,000 per day departing and that’s just recently,” he added. “We’re very excited to have that back.” If someone were going to Toronto to see American rockers A Day to Remember, departing on July 30 and arriving back Aug. 3, booking with Swoop would cost about $625, according to booking websites.
