Swiss billionaire Hansjoerg Wyss committed $131 million to Harvard University. The donation will fund causes including cancer research, molecular diagnostic tools and stroke rehabilitation by DenizCam
pledging to donate $1 billion to conservation efforts around the world over the next 10 years.
Founded a decade ago, the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering focuses on finding innovative and profitable solutions to challenges in environment and healthcare. The institute says it has filed for 2,600 patents, made 53 licensing agreements and helped launch 29 startups since 2009, thanks to Wyss’ donations.
The Wyss Foundation, which he founded in 1998, has doled out $450 million to date toward preserving nearly 40 million acres of land and water around the planet.
