SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — A suspect has been shot and killed in Scottsdale after shooting at police from a stolen vehicle, according to authorities.said the shooting happened at around 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of Scottsdale and Cactus roads when officers tried to stop the vehicle.Police said multiple rounds were fired by the suspect.

“So they set up for that traffic stop. They turn on their overhead lights, that car comes to a stop. They come to a stop. Driver is out immediately, immediately and firing from a handgun," said Chief Jeff Walther."They then put themselves in the right position to return fire and ultimately the suspect is deceased inside the vehicle."

Several vehicles being driven by people not involved in the incident were also at the intersection when the suspect started shooting at officers. Police said at least one of them might have been struck by gunfire.Walther said he’s thankful his officers will go home tonight but also said a bigger conversation is needed about violence in the country.

"When did this become ok? If you think about in terms of over the last 14 months for Scottsdale police," said Walther."I’ve had four different officer-involved shootings, each where the suspect shot at us.” The roadway in the area of the incident will be closed for several hours as the shooting is investigated.Northbound Scottsdale Rd will CLOSED at Jenan & Westbound Cactus Rd will be CLOSED at Scottsdale Rd for an active Police Investigation.
