DPS officials say a suspect is injured following a shooting involving one of their troopers.
The shooting happened in an area near the I-17 and Thomas Road, and troopers say they shot at the suspect after he fled from arrest and allegedly produced a gun. The shooting, according to a brief tweet made by DPS, happened at around 3:43 p.m. in the area of 24th Drive and Thomas Road, north of Downtown Phoenix. DPS officials said it all began when a man riding a bike, who they describe to be in his 20s, was pulled over by a motorcycle trooper for a traffic violation. While taking down his information, that trooper discovered the man had a warrant out for his arrest.
When asked what kind of crime the warrant was for, investigators say they believe at this time it was for some kind of misdemeanor.Investigators went on to say that as the trooper attempted to arrest the suspect, he started running. The trooper then followed on the motorcycle, and attempted to tase him. Subsequently, authorities say the suspect produced a gun, and the trooper shot him in his leg and arm."The trooper was not injured.
