Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has suggested that, in the future, teachers could be first responders if they carried guns. But Greg Shaffer, the founder of Shaffer Security Group, says arming teachers isn’t the right answer.
PUBLISHED 4:07 PM CDT Jul. 05, 2022AUSTIN, Texas — Students in Texas will return to school in less than two months. But since a gunman killed 19 students and two teachers in Uvalde on May 24, some parents have wondered if their students will be safe in class.
But Greg Shaffer, the founder of Shaffer Security Group, says arming teachers isn’t the right answer. “She’s not a big fan, most teachers are not,” Shaffer said. “And she grew up with me, around firearms. And I’ve trained her personally. She’s very, very good. And she still doesn’t want to carry a weapon. She wants to have an armed guard available, but not on her person.”
