During the latest Mario Day event held by Nintendo, the studio announced they would be reteaming with Universal and Illumination to develop a new Super Mario Bros. movie. The announcement was made by Nintendo exec Shigeru Miyamoto and Illumination CEO/founder Chris Meledandri, with the duo indicating that the movie is set to expand the world of the original hit and hit theaters on April 3, 2026 in the U.S.
It’ll have a bright and fun story. This time we’re thinking about broadening Mario’s world further. We’ll let you know once we’re at the stage where we’re ready to share more.
