10th-seeded Mt. Carmel plays Saturday at No. 3 Calabasas Viewpoint in the Regional semifinals
Having won the first San Diego Section boys basketball title in school history, Mt. Carmel High is in uncharted waters in the Southern California Regional playoffs.After a road win Tuesday at No. 7 Dana Hills, No. 10-seeded Mt. Carmel shot No. 15-seeded Narbonne out of its zone defense in the first quarter, and cruised to an 80-59 Division III quarterfinal win Thursday at home.“I think we had a little championship hangover at Dana Hills,” said Mt. Carmel coach Greg Lanthier.
For the season, Mt. Carmel has made a San Diego Section 414 3-pointers, led by senior Jaden Matusalem, who has 111.“I guess they didn’t have film on us,” said Matusalem. “Then we came out and shot the lights out.”Zach Rose added 11 points and had seven rebounds.
